Flowers Exotic and Rare

Photographs of flowers are almost as common as the plants themselves. They stare out at viewers from newspaper photos, nursery catalogs and gardening books, as well as from nearly every serious photographer’s portfolio.

It’s not easy to make such an ordinary subject interesting, but Cy DeCosse has a vision all his own. He believes in moving in close and exploring the essence of each single blossom.

Removed from the garden and isolated against an abstract, painted background, even familiar flowers like sunflowers assume a mysterious, poetic quality.

Dahlias turn into fireworks. The Stargazer Lily looks up to the heavens. A bouquet of roses, shot with infra-red film, takes on an ethereal glow.

This collection of extra-large (20 x 24″) platinum prints is a voyage to the never-never land of Cy DeCosse’s imagination.
